Reading Rewards

At Whitehall we encourage and want to develop a love of reading for all children. Every fortnight, we host a reading assembly where we celebrate the amazing reading, that has taken place during that time. All children have access to our library, where they can take out a ZPD reading book (a book linked to their reading age) and a 'free choice' book. Over the course of the week, they are given time in school to read their books, share with an adult and should be reading at home as part of their homework. In addition to the library books, we also have MyOn, which is a online reading library. The children are able to access this at home and at school. Once the children have completed a MyOn book or book from the library, they are encouraged to take a quiz on the book, to check their understanding.

During the assembly, certificates are give out to two children in each class. The child who have taken the most quizzes during that time and the child who has read the most words. Along with their certificates, they receive an invitation to have a hot chocolate with Mrs Collins.

Between the 16th February and 16th March , our children have read a staggering 8,300,496 words on Accelerated Reader.

The top three classes were:

3rd place Class 11 reading 867,274 words

2nd place Class 9 reading 1,206,211 words

1st place Class 5 reading 2,186,826 words

Well done to all the children!
