Maths (Place Value) - 

  • Three-Digit Numbers: Identifying the hundreds, tens, and ones columns. For example, in 356, the 3 means 300, the 5 means 50, and the 6 means 6.
  • Partitioning: Splitting numbers into their place value parts, such as 725 = 700 + 20 + 5. 
  • Finding More or Less: Finding 1, 10, or 100 more or less than a given number. 
  • Comparing and Ordering: Using < and > symbols to compare numbers and ordering them from smallest to largest (ascending) or largest to smallest (descending). 
  • Counting Patterns: Counting in steps of 50s and 100s

 

 

English - We are learning all about Stone Age Boy. Children will be completing sentence stacking lessons on this and will use the ideas generated to complete their own version of the story.

Stone Age Boy is a modern boy who trips in the woods, falls through a dark hole, and wakes up 20,000 years in the past during the Stone Age. 

 

 

Science (Rocks) - Know about the different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties.

Know how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock

Know that soils are made from rocks and organic matter

 

 

History - 

Settlements

  • Cave dwellings and shelters to places with more settled tribal living (several Stone Age shelters like a small village, where groups of people lived together)
  • Hunter gathering to farming.
  • Stone tools to iron tools- weapons become more advanced used for farming, hunting and fighting.

Invasion

  • Growing needs for Hillforts.

Beliefs

  • Finds such as ceremonial headdresses at sites such as Star Carr.
  • Reasons for building Stonehenge.
