Queen Mary’s Schools - Year 5 outreach 2024-25
Fri 14 Mar 2025Dear parent/guardian
Thank you for allowing your son or daughter to attend the aspiration sessions at the Queen Mary’s schools in the spring term. We were delighted with the number of year 5 pupils who were involved and we hope they had a great time getting to know the schools, including meeting staff and students.
The next phase is to invite yourselves and your son/daughter into the Queen Mary’s schools to take part in familiarisation sessions around the set-up of the entrance exam. These will take place after the end of the school day and are intended to provide a good insight into what the exam experience will actually be like.
The sessions last one hour and it is only necessary to attend one of the options below. They will take place from 4.00pm-5.00pm on the following dates:
Wed 30/04/2025 Thu 08/05/2025 Wed 14/05/2025 Mon 19/05/2025The intention, in this phase, is that the girls attend the sessions at QMHS and the boys at QMGS (as they will be on the day of the exam), so the sessions will be running at the same time in both schools. No transport will be provided, so
parents will need to make travel arrangements. Please note, that there is no parking allowed on school grounds.
The sessions will take place in a classroom or hall set up as an exam room, so that the pupils can see what this will be like on the day. Parents will be able to sit at the back to observe the session. We will talk through the routines of the day and then go through the different elements of the exam, providing worked examples and exercises. Students
from the Queen Mary’s schools will also be on hand to help with the sessions and answer individual questions. It is important to realise that these sessions are only intended to familiarise
the pupils with the experience of sitting the exam. They are not coaching
sessions and it is vital that your son or daughter is working through
exercises at home to prepare for the exam in the three areas: verbal
reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and maths.
